Hip 59, a Counterforce gelding, topped the 2023 CTHS Alberta Thoroughbred Sale.
The 2023 renewal of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Alberta Division) took place Sept. 22, posting across-the-board gains, led by a Counterforce gelding who sold for $46,000 (Canadian).
A total of 71 yearlings changed hands during the auction for revenues of $635,800, marking a 43 percent increase in gross from last year’s sale, when 58 horses sold for $443,600.
The average sale price rose 30 percent to $14,450 from $11,090, while the median increased 121 percent to $10,500 from $4,750.
Leading the way was a gelding by Counterforce who sold to Curtis Landry for $46,000.
Offered as Hip 59, the gelding is out of the unplaced Katowice mare Chilli Chines, whose seven winners from eight runners includes Grade 3-placed multiple stakes winner Herbie D and stakes-placed Timber King. The British Columbia-bred gelding’s extended family includes stakes winner Darcia and stakes-placed runners Boiling Point and Path to Victory.
