The Afghan pacer said that he chose to retire from the ODI format in order to prolong his career.

Afghanistan pacer, Naveen-Ul-Haq, took to Instagram to announce his retirement from ODIs after the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup.

He said that he made the decision to retire from the 50-over format in order to prolong his playing career. Naveen has been playing in franchise cricket across the world and is one of Afghanistan’s most important bowlers bar Rashid Khan.

Currently, his stats in the 50-over format shows that he has only played seven ODI’s and picked 14 wickets with his best figures being 4/42. He made his debut for Afghanistan in ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur, in 2016. He last played for the national side against Ireland in Abu Dhabi, in 2021.

Naveen-ul-Haq also took part in the Indian Premier League where he played for the Lucknow Supergiants. It was during this time when he had the infamous tussle with Indian batter, Virat Kohli when playing against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the two were seen going at it.

The pacer will look to put in good performances and help his side as Afghanistan look to play their second World Cup and look to improve on their performance from 2019 where they did not manage to get past the league stage of the tournament.
