People pay tributes to Jake Neary
Another one said: “There is not enough paper in the world to make a fitting tribute to him. He left everyone he met with a smile. He was the loveliest lad with an amazing bowling arm and smile.”
“It is not clear as to why he lay down in the road and in any event it is tragic,” Coroner Kate Bisset said.
There was a resident of the road who had viewed Jake Neary lying down the road with a cigarette but didn’t interact with him due to the trouble with people in that area in the past.
Jake is said to be an intoxicated person but was not struggling to walk. He was offered a taxi home in England, but declined and walked off and sat in an alleyway, which is just off Parramatta Street.
How did Jake Neary die?
A man named Mr. Bailey was looking for a space to park his vehicle in the alley. Unable to find a space in Parramatta Street in England Bailey drove his white Audio inside the alley but could not see Jake Neary lying on the road due to poor lighting.
When he reversed his car, it didn’t move and a voice came out yelling ‘help me’. He ran to get help after initially trying to lift the car up. Then, he called up the emergency services.
“I had good visibility, I was not distracted and the wing mirror had nothing to view. I owned the car for four years, I was rested and alert and had not been drinking. I was later given the news he had died, I am still shocked, and I will never forget this,” Bailey stated.
Mr Bailey also did not attend the inquest as he did not want to disturb Neary’s family and cause them unnecessary distress. Coroner Bissett later concluded that Jake Neary died because of a road traffic conclusion.
