Virat Kohli is the second-highest run-getter for India in the World Cup with 1030 runs in 26 matches.

Batting great AB de Villiers has predicted that Virat Kohli is going to have a wonderful World Cup and will end up in the top 3 of the highest run-getters in the tournament. Kohli will be playing his fourth World Cup as he was also part of the 2011 WC-winning team.

The batting maestro has been in good form this year in the 50-over format. He has scored 612 runs in 16 ODIs thus far this year which includes three centuries, with an average of 55.63.

The 33-year-old is the second-highest run-getter for India in the World Cup with 1030 runs in 26 matches. He is behind batting great Sachin Tendulkar in the tally.

De Villiers, who shares a great camaraderie with Kohli, suggested that he is going to be one of the leading run-getters in the upcoming World Cup.

“Virat Kohli is going to have a wonderful World Cup. He will be one of the leading runs scorers in this World Cup and he will be definitely there in the top 3 most runs scorer,” De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

In the 2019 World Cup, Kohli failed to hit a century but he looked in decent touch and scored five-half centuries while accumulating 443 runs at an average of 55.37.

De Villiers heaped praise on Kohli and said when the situation gets tough he is the man to deliver under pressure and rescue his side.

“Virat Kohli is going to play some very crucial knocks in this World Cup 2023. Under pressure when team India are feeling it and crowds expectations and tough situations and then Virat Kohli is your man, he will deliver for you under pressure,” he added.

Meanwhile, recently, De Villiers also suggested that Kohli should bid adieu to ODIs if India manage to win the upcoming World Cup.

“I know he loves travelling to South Africa (for the 2027 World Cup), but it’s very difficult to say. It is a long time away. Let’s focus on this one first, I think that’s what Virat Kohli would tell you. I think if they win this World Cup, it might not be a bad time to say, ‘Thank you very much. I am maybe just going to play Test cricket for the next few years and a little bit of IPL, enjoy the last bit of my career, have enough family time, and say goodbye to everyone’,” De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
