VIDEO- It’s surreal feeling but I’m far from my best says India Open winner Axelsen

Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen secured the men’s singles crown respectively with dominating win in lop-sided finals at the India Open Super 750 badminton tournament here on Sunday.

Axelsen said that he struggled initially but found his rhythm in the second game, with his attack shots becoming more effective. He acknowledged that he is still not at his best, but the win is a promising sign that he is on the right track.

He expressed his desire to continue improving and compete for the biggest titles in the sport.

“To be honest I didn’t feel like it was smooth- sailing at all, I was struggling in the beginning. In the second game, I started feeling my attack was sitting pretty well and I felt more comfortable” he said

“I am far from my best, very good signs that I am winning here, I feel like I can be more better and compete for the biggest titles” he added

Winning this title holds special significance for Axelsen, as it marks a turning point in his motivation and competitiveness. He revealed that injuries have affected his motivation since the Olympics, but this victory has reignited his motivation.

“To be honest, to win this title is very special to me. Because it has been just a different feeling on court and different preparation. I’m starting to feel like my motivation is back. I’ve been a competitor this week,” Axelsen, who was playing in his sixth India Open final in 10 years, told reporters.

“Since the Olympics, I’ve had a little bit of issues with injuries. And that has been affecting my motivation a little bit. So to be here now and win the title means a lot.” he said

Axelsen, a 2017 and 2019 winner, prevailed 21-16 21-8 over last year’s finalist Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong in the men’s singles summit clash at the KD Jadhav indoor hall which was almost full despite the fact that no Indian was competing in the two finals.

Axelsen, a two-time world champion, thus erased the disappointment of falling in the opening round of Malaysian Open super 1000 last week to the same opponent.
