Taskin Ahmed suffers injury, Hasan Mahmud to replace him in squad for USA T20Is: Report

Fast-bowler Hasan Mahmud is reportedly set to be a part of the Bangladesh squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the USA.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Hasan Mahmud is likely to replace fellow pacer Taskin Ahmed in the Bangladesh squad for the series ahead of the all-important ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Taskin is sidelined with a side injury that he recently sustained and is set to miss the three T20Is against the USA, scheduled to be played in Texas from May 21 to 25.

Hasan Mahmud has not played a T20I for Bangladesh since last year. He played the last of his 17 T20Is during the home series against Afghanistan in July last year. The report also added that while Taskin will miss the series against the USA, he is set to travel with the team.

Bangladesh will be carrying a 17-member squad for the series and are hopeful that Taskin will recover in time for the T20 World Cup. In case, Taskin fails to recover in time, Hasan Mahmud will be the preferred choice to replace him in the Bangladesh squad.

Teams are allowed to make changes to their World Cup squad until May 25. After that, they will have to get clearance from the ICC T20WC technical committee to make a change in the squad. Bangladesh will announce their World Cup squad on Tuesday (May 14).

“Hasan Mahmud will certainly travel to USA for three T20Is and he is the front-runner to replace Taskin if he eventually cannot make it into the World Cup,” a member of the selection panel told the news outlet.

“We are still hopeful that we will have some positive news regarding Taskin. If it was too serious, we would have been informed that there was no chance,” he added.
