As is customary on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, the $400,000 Falls City Stakes (G3) is on the wagering menu at Churchill Downs. The 1 1/8-mile race features two fillies coming off victories in grade 2 company: Tarifa and Musical Mischief .
The former, a homebred 3-year-old daughter of Bernardini owned by Godolphin and trained by Brad Cox, gamely captured the Mother Goose Stakes (G2) Oct. 26 during the Belmont at the Big A meet and now seeks to transfer her sharp form to Churchill Downs, where she has twice finished out of the money in as many starts. She is 5-1-1 in seven starts elsewhere, including victories in the Rachel Alexandra Stakes (G2) and Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.
Flavien Prat has the mount on Tarifa, who faces older fillies and mares for the first time.
Meanwhile, 4-year-old Musical Mischief, owned by Wathnan Racing and trained by Michael McCarthy, is 3-0-0 in five starts at Churchill Downs, including the Locust Grove Stakes (G2) last out Sept. 14.
Edgar Morales, in the irons Thursday, is 4-for-5 riding the Into Mischief filly. Other riders are 0-for-7 aboard her.
Six other fillies and mares oppose this duo, including a second entry for Godolphin with the Brendan Walsh-trained stakes-winning Loved , a half sister to dual grade 1 winner Maxfield .
The card kicks off early at 11:30 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, and the Falls City is the ninth race at 3:16 p.m. ET.
