T20 World Cup 2024: West Indies set to take on Australia in key warm-up match in Trinidad | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Cricket enthusiasts will have the chance to witness the West Indies play their last practice game before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup commences. The match, against Australia, will take place at Trinidad’s Queen’s Park Oval on May 30.
This warm-up encounter will provide both teams with a final chance to refine their strategies and preparations ahead of the T20 World Cup, scheduled from June 1 to June 29.
Johnny Grave, Cricket West Indies Chief Executive Officer, stated, “There will be 16 action-packed warm-up fixtures in the USA and in Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies leading up to the first game of the T20 World Cup on June 1, and the match between the West Indies and Australia is one our fans will want to see. It will be a proper test for both teams to gauge where they are in their preparations and will allow both Head Coaches to give their full squad an opportunity to make a case for their selection once the tournament begins.”
The West Indies are placed in Group C, alongside New Zealand, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, and Uganda. They will begin their campaign against Papua New Guinea on June 2 at the Guyana National Stadium. Their first match in Trinidad and Tobago is scheduled for June 12 against New Zealand at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
Supporters of the West Indies are urged to attend the matches and cheer on their ‘Men in Maroon’ as they pursue an unprecedented third ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title. The journey begins with the warm-up match against Australia, the reigning 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup champions.
