Las Vegas, NV – Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach Florida will be the scene of the Grade 3 Sweetest Chant Stakes on Saturday, January 24. Three year old fillies will take to Gulfstream’s turf track and go one mile for a purse of $100,000.
A field of 10 sophomore females will line up in the Sweetest Chant Stakes – race 8 on Gulfstream’s busy Saturday card. Post time is 4:02 PM. Here is a glance into the past performances of all 10 combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.
Consumer Credit – Chad Brown trained filly has four career starts with two wins and a second place finish. She enters this week on a two race win streak – the minor Wait a While Stakes by a dominant 3 3/4 lengths last time out at Gulfstream Park November 29 and a maiden score by 2 1/4 lengths in her third career start. She makes her Gulfstream Park debut Saturday hoping to make it three wins in a row. Edgard Zayas has the mount from post 7.
Ol’ Fashion Gal – Mark Casse trained filly made her graded stakes debut last time out and recorded an impressive win in the Grade 3 Jimmy Durante Stakes at Del Mar November 29. That win followed a maiden score in her second career start and a tenth in her debut – all results at Del Mar. Ol’ Fashion Girl has won both career starts on turf. Jose Lezcano will be in the saddle trying to keep the roll going from post 5.
Red Sashay – has two wins in four career starts for trainer Jane Cibelli including the minor Our Dear Peggy Stakes on this track in October and a maiden score here in September. Last time out was a bit of a hiccup however – a fifth behind Consumer Credit in the minor Wait a While Stakes at Gulfstream Park West November 29. She hopes for a strong bounce back performance Saturday on a track that she’s won both career starts with Irad Ortiz in the reins from gate 8.
Quality Rocks – Bill Mott trainee started 2-for-2 in her career – the minor Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes September 6 after a 3 1/2 length maiden score at Presque Isle Downs August 13. Last time out she finished tenth on the biggest stage – the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf which followed a good second behind Rainha Da Bateria in the Grade 3 Jessamine Stakes October 8. She has been in there with some top fields and has fared OK. Javier Castellano gets the mount this time from gate 4.
Nicky’s Brown Miss – has nine career starts with one win, one second and three third place finishes. She won the minor Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies Stakes September 6 after a third in her stakes debut – the minor Colleen Stakes at Monmouth Park in August but struggled after that – a tenth in the Grade 3 Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont Park September 28 was followed by a thirteenth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. Nicky’s Brown Miss has looked better since – a second last time out in the minor Ginger Brew Stakes on this track followed a third behind Consumer Credit in the minor Wait a While Stakes in November. Gabriel Saez gets the call from the outside post Saturday.

Miss Temple City – Graham Motion trained filly has two career starts and two wins – an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track December 17 and a maiden score at first asking – at Laurel Park October 10. John Velazquez gets the call as Miss Temple City looks to remain perfect and leaves from post 3.
Loon River – David Kassen trained filly has a wins and a second place finish in four career starts. She makes her stakes debut Saturday after finally breaking maiden – at Belmont Park October 10, a fourth a second and a sixth respectively in similar races on New York tracks. Rajiv Maragh will be guiding Loon River in her huge leap up in competition from post 9.
Cosmic Serenity – will hit the track for just the second time for trainer Philip Serpe – the first start was a good one. She won a Maiden Claiming on this very track December 14. Luis Saez has been tabbed to ride in Cosmic Serenity’s stakes debut.
Cardinal Cove – will race for the fourth time for trainer Kathleen O’Connell having won two of her three career starts. Last time out was her only blemish – a fifth in the minor Ginger Brew Stakes here January 3 in her only stakes race to date. Before that was an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Tampa Bay in December and a maiden score at first asking – at Gulfstream Park West in October. Cardinal Cove hopes to break through in stakes company with Eduardo Nunez in the irons from post 6.
Angel Falls – has six career starts for trainer Manuel Azpurua with just one win and a second place finish. She enters off a fourth in the minor Ginger Brew Stakes on this track January 3 after a seventh in an Allowance optional Claiming on this track December 17, a maiden score at Gulfstream Park West October 25 in her fourth career start and a fourth in the minor Our Dear Peggy Stakes here in October. Luis Contreras will get the call as Angel Falls looks to place in stakes company for the first time – from post 2.
