Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), on Thursday (May 16), booked their place in the playoffs of the ongoing IPL 2024 after their game against Gujarat Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was washed out without a ball being bowled.
Both the teams have received a point each after the wash out. SRH now have 15 points in 13 games and have moved to the third spot in the points table. They will be finishing in the top four irrespective of the result in their final league game.

The wash-out, however, has dealt a huge blow to their chances of finishing in the top two. Even if they win their last league game which is against Punjab Kings, their fate will depend on the game between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
If RR manage to beat table-toppers KKR, they will finish at the second spot irrespective of SRH’s result in their game. For SRH to finish in the top two, they need to win their last game while RR will have to lose theirs. As far as GT are concerned, they were already knocked out of the playoffs race after their last game against KKR was washed out as well. The Shubman Gill-led side has finished its campaign in IPL 2024 at the eighth spot with 12 points.

Four teams in contention for one spot:
Four teams are still in contention for the remaining playoffs spot – Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. DC and LSG’s chances of progressing ahead is very less due to their poor net run-rate. LSG will also have to win their remaining one game first in order to finish on 14 points.
The game between CSK and RCB is set to decide the team that will be the fourth one to make it to the playoffs. A win for CSK will be enough to make it to the playoffs. Even if they lose, they can qualify if they manage to finish the league stage with a better net run-rate than RCB’s.
