Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube undeserving? Shikhar Dhawan drops huge verdict on batters’ WC selection

The veteran India National Cricket Team left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan has delivered his honest verdict on the selection of batters Shivam Dube and Sanju Samson as well as leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

With their incredible performances, Yuzvendra Chahal, Shivam Dube, and Sanju Samson forced the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee to pick them in the squad for the World Cup.

Yuzvendra Chahal despite being India’s highest wicket-taker in T20I history was ignored by the team management and the selection committee constantly. However, that changed when the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel decided to include him in the 15-man squad for the World Cup. Chahal is among the 4 spinners India have on the team with the others being Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Talking about Sanju Samson, he wasn’t India’s first-choice either for the World Cup as India had an eye on Jitesh Sharma to bat in the lower-order but a sudden dip in the form of the Punjab Kings star to go with Sanju Samson’s sensational IPL 2024 season led to his T20 World Cup selection. Samson will battle with Rishabh Pant for a spot in the playing XI in the World Cup.

Finally talking about Shivam Dube, the left-handed batsman was given a World Cup ticket because of the power-hitting he showed in the Indian Premier League as well as for India National Cricket Team. He pipped Rinku Singh to grab a spot in the side.

It’s great to see players like Shivam Dube… – Shikhar Dhawan

In a recent interaction with TOI, Shikhar Dhawan talked about India’s World Cup squad. Delivering his verdict on the selection of Dube, Chahal, and Samson, Shikhar Dhawan said that the trio deserved to be in the team.

“It’s great to see players like Shivam Dube, Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal), and Sanju (Samson) getting their deserved spots in the ICC tournament and we got a very balanced side and we got to play really good cricket. Good luck team India and we are all rooting for you guys,” Dhawan told The Times of India.

Shikhar Dhawan also said that the Indian players who will take part in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be under pressure to deliver for the side.

“Of course, there is lots of pressure playing for India in World Cups and Rohit is an experienced guy. I am sure his experience will come in handy, he knows how to soak the pressure and definitely, India will come out with flying colours,” Dhawan said

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is set to be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America from June 1 to June 29. It will be the 9th edition of the T20 World Cup organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and it will also be the first-ever instance of 20 teams featuring in the competition.
