Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has opened up on his relationship with the legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni just before the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Samson called it his dream to be in Dhoni’s contact and wants to learn from his idol.
Both Sanju Samson and MS Dhoni will be playing for their respective teams in IPL 2025. While Samson is still growing as a player and has a huge responsibility on his shoulders as a captain, Dhoni is in the final stages of his IPL career.

Sanju Samson breaks silence on his relationship with MS Dhoni
During a conversation with JioHotstar, Sanju Samson revealed how his relationship with MS Dhoni actually started. He claimed to be wanting to be around MS Dhoni just like every other budding Indian cricketer and asked him about his process of doing things.
“Like every young Indian cricketer, I always wanted to be around MS Dhoni. Every time we played against CSK, I wanted to sit and talk to him, ask him how he does things. It was a dream for me,” Samson said.
“I remember playing a match against CSK in Sharjah, where I finally performed well, scored around 70-80 runs, won the game and became the Man of the Match. After that, I met Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) and since then, our relationship has grown,” he added.
During IPL 2020, Sanju Samson smashed a brilliant 74 off just 32 balls while batting at No. 3 for Rajasthan Royals against Chennai Super Kings. Samson struck 1 four and 9 magnificent sixes in this match to take his team to an emphatic win.

Further speaking in the conversation, Samson called it a blessed feeling to be in Dhoni’s contact. He called the meeting and idolising MS Dhoni as his dream and relished every opportunity with the legendary wicketkeeper.
“Just yesterday, I met him (MS Dhoni) again. It’s truly a blessed feeling- to go from idolising him to now sitting with him for shoots and events. I feel like I’m living my dream,” said Samson.

Will MS Dhoni retire after IPL 2025?
Dhoni will be appearing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 but won’t be leading the team. He resigned from the captaincy after leading CSK to the IPL 2023 title and passed the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
However, CSK failed to qualify for the knockouts last season. Dhoni has already indicated that he wants to enjoy the last few years of his career as much as he can. He has made it clear that he isn’t thinking too much about his retirement yet and just wants to carry on.
Dhoni was retained by CSK in the IPL 2025 mega auction for INR 4 crore under the uncapped players category. On the other hand, Samson was also retained by his team Rajasthan Royals for INR 18 crore.
