Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan dropped a massive statement ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He said that even if they buy big names in the mega auction, Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue captaining the team in the league.
The spotlight will be on Chennai Super Kings as they will be heading into the Indian Premier League 2025 auction. There have been several reports that the franchise will be going for Rishabh Pant as they are seeing him as the next captain and a successor to MS Dhoni.
Rishabh Pant wasn’t retained by the Delhi Capitals as the conversations between the two parties didn’t go well
Rishabh Pant wasn’t retained by the Delhi Capitals as the conversations between the two parties didn’t go well. Following that, former player of the Chennai Super Kings, Suresh Raina, made a massive revelation, saying that MS Dhoni had conversations with Pant and the latter will be wearing Yellow soon.
There were even reports that Chennai Super Kings will be making Rishabh Pant their captain if the keeper-batter makes it into their squad, replacing Ruturaj Gaikwad in the role. The five-time Champions have made pretty decent retentions and have kept their core players with them going ahead.
Chennai Super Kings retained Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja as their top two retentions. Matheesha Pathirana, who is known as their product, retained alongside Shivam Dube, and former captain of the team, MS Dhoni, was retained in the uncapped category.
We still have the confidence that we will be able to get them into a team – CSK CEO on top Indian players entering the auction
Kasi Viswanathan talked about the retentions of the team, saying that they knew that they might not be able to go for some big Indian names with the less purse available after finalizing retentions. But he is optimistic about trying their best. Speaking to Ambati Rayudu on Provoke TV, he explained:
“So, we also knew that if we have those retentions done, we may have a smaller purse to go into the auction, which will mean that we will not be probably able to compete with other teams for getting the best of the Indian players like whoever has come into the auction, you know the big names who have come into the auction.
“We may, we will still try, but I don’t think it will be easy for us to get them in the auction, but we still have the confidence that we will be able to get them into a team that will be most competitive.”
Ruturaj Gaikwad is, as you know, a captain who comes in the same mould as MS – CSK CEO
Kasi Viswanathan was optimistic about winning the 6th title in the Indian Premier League. He also confirmed that Ruturaj Gaikwad would be their skipper in the next edition, saying that the young batter comes from the same mold as MS Dhoni. He added:
“We will try our best. As you know, we will always try to follow a process, and Ruturaj is, as you know, a captain who comes in the same mould as MS. He is also very calm and collected, and I think we should have a very good future.”
Ruturaj Gaikwad was captain of the Chennai Super Kings last year after MS Dhoni stepped down. He did a decent job as the captain of the team and carried his players pretty well. He would be hoping to take his team to glory next year.
