It’s been a weekend to remember for Lael Stables at Woodbine.
A day after capturing the CA$500,000 Natalma Stakes with She Feels Pretty , a win that includes a berth into the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T), Lael Stables found itself celebrating once again. This time it was the $150,000 Seaway Stakes (G3).
Its homebred Ready To Venture stalked along the rail from just off the lead before moving inside to split two rivals at the top of the stretch. Moved to the middle of the track by jockey Rafael Hernandez, the 5-year-old daughter of Kingman had too much for her competitors to keep up.
Ready to Venture crossed the wire in 1:21.60.
“At the three-eighths, I said, ‘Man, I have horse.’ I know my horse was running down the lane and I said whoever is coming is going to have to have run fast to get us,” said Hernandez.
Millie Girl finished second and Il Malocchio third. A $2 bet paid $16.30.
Ready to Venture, trained by Michael Stidham, improves to 6-4-3 from 20 career starts with $327,255. For the year, she is 1-0-0 from three starts with $71,350 in the bank.
