The red soil pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, under cloudy conditions, provided an ideal setting for the KKR fast bowlers to showcase their skills.
“They bowled fantastically. Old mate Starcy turned up again! Not enough tonight, totally outplayed.
You hope you get some boundaries away but they bowled fantastically well,” Cummins said in the post-match presentation, heaping praise on Mitchell Starc.
Starc and Vaibhav Arora‘s partnership caused significant problems for the usually free-scoring Hyderabad batsmen.
The quick duo struck early in the powerplay, putting SRH in a difficult position that prevented them from reaching 160, a score that would have given Hyderabad a chance.
“Didn’t give us anything, Similar to how they bowled in Ahmedabad. It was a tricky wicket. If we got 160, we felt we would have been in the game,” Cummins added.
Despite falling short in the IPL final, the Sunrisers had a memorable season, impressing spectators with their free-scoring style of play.
With several power-hitting batsmen in their lineup, SRH broke the record for the highest score in the IPL twice in a single season.
“So many (positives), the style with which the guys played especially with the bat. Lot of skills to get to 250 three times. I loved how brave the guys were. It was a lot of fun, a great season,” Cumming concluded.
KKR secured the IPL 2024 title with a dominant all-round performance against SRH in the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Their third title celebrations began at the same ground, Chepauk, where they had lifted their maiden title in 2012 under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir.
KKR’s bowlers left the Sunrisers stunned, restricting the usually free-scoring SRH batting line-up to just 113 runs. In response, KKR chased down the target in a mere 10.3 overs, losing only two wickets in the process.
