No Denying Sierra Leone in Breeders’ Cup Classic

Using a powerful rally three or four wide in the far turn, Sierra Leone  took command in the stretch to win the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) Nov. 2 at Del Mar.

Campaigned by Peter Brant, Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor, et. al., Sierra Leone completed the 1 1/4-mile test in 2:00.78 on a fast track. Bred in Kentucky by Debby Oxley, Sierra Leone is a 3-year-old son of Gun Runner  —Heavenly Love, by Malibu Moon. He is trained by Chad Brown and was ridden to victory by Flavien Prat.

Sierra Leone led home a trio of 3-year-olds in the top spots as Fierceness  finished second and Japan-trained Forever Young  was third.
