The West Virginia Breeders’ Classic Stakes saw favorite Coastal Mission trounce home the winner with ease Oct. 15 over the 1 1/8-mile test on a sealed, sloppy track. The Jeff Runco pupil put 5 3/4 lengths between the wire and stable mate Muad’dib on the home court at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.
Finishing in a time of 1:53.49 Arnaldo Bocachica guided the 4-year-old Great Notion gelding easily through fractions of 25.06, 49.70, 1:15.38, and 1:39.89 before widening his margin in the stretch and handily riding to the finish.
The Coleswood Farm homebred now sits on earnings of $572,728 in 16 starts with an 11-3-1 record.
Finishing order as follows: Coastal Mission ($2.40 for the win), Muad’dib ($2.60 to place), Late in the Game ($2.20 to show), C R’s Mandate , Candy Invasion, Martin Man , Noballstwostrikes, Buff’s Eye View , Rip Thorn, Tyry Tyrannosaurus.
