Mohammed Shami bowls full throttle at Chinnaswamy Stadium nets after Day 2 of IND vs NZ 1st Test

India National Cricket Team fast bowler Mohammed Shami is nearing full fitness ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. As per the reports in RevSportz, it is learned that the fast bowler has resumed bowling in the nets at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Shami was seen bowling in the nets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium following the conclusion of Day 2’s play between India and New Zealand. The reports claimed that the fast bowler started the session with the warm-up runs and then proceeded to bowl for several minutes.

Mohammed Shami started bowling with a short run-up

Shami started bowling with the short run-up, and after that, he started extending it. Then, the pacer was seen bowling with a strap resembling a crepe bandage on his left knee, which had suffered from swelling a few days ago ahead of the ongoing first Test against the New Zealand National Cricket Team.

The reports claimed that Shami then increased his speed and was bowling at nearly half his usual speed. He maintained the same speed during the next 2-3 overs he delivered. Following the brief drinks break, he measured his full run-up with a tape and increased his intensity as well.

Troy Cooley, the fast bowling coach from the NCA, was keenly observing Mohammed Shami and also Nitin Patel, head of sports science and medicine at the National Cricket Academy, closely monitoring Shami’s bowling action. The pacer then bowled at full throttle and looked good with his pace and action.

Shami was seen having brief discussions with Cooley and Patel, with the fast bowling coach applauding the pacer after some particularly quicker deliveries. Even though he was bowling at full tilt, his bowling intensity wasn’t the same as we have seen of him.

Mohammed Shami was involved in a 20-minute session

The reports claimed that Shami was involved in a 20-minute session. With the fast bowler resuming the bowling, it will be a massive boost for the India National Cricket Team ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which will start on 22nd November in Perth.

Then reports in RevSportz also claimed that Shami will need approximately six weeks to fully recover from his knee injury. The development was confirmed by the sources at NCA, and it was also revealed that the fast bowler has not yet completely been ruled out for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Mohammed Shami has been out of action ever since the ICC World Cup 2023 concluded

Mohammed Shami has been out of action ever since the ICC World Cup 2023 concluded. The fast bowler suffered an ankle injury during the tournament and, after that, underwent surgery for the same. He was all set to make a comeback during the New Zealand series.

But ahead of the series, he experienced swelling in his knee. Skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed about the same, saying that he was about to attain full fitness but faced a new setback. He also mentioned that there is no clarity if the pacer will be fit for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
