Team India’s opening batter KL Rahul reached significant milestones during the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series against Australia. KL Rahul completed 3000 runs in the format on Day 1 of the first Test match at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Friday, November 22.
Team India interim skipper Jasprit Bumrah opted to bat first on challenging batting conditions after winning the toss. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul opened the innings in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal were dismissed without adding runs to the board on the opening day.

KL Rahul scored his 3,000th run in Test cricket on Day 1 of the first Test match. The right-handed batter achieved this milestone in his 54th Test (92nd innings). He became the 26th Indian player to do so. The batter has scored 3,007 runs at an average of 33.79, with 8 centuries and 15 half-centuries.
Rahul smashed a brilliant cover drive off Australian captain Pat Cummins to reach the milestone. The Australian skipper bowled a full delivery, and Rahul capitalized on the width to score a boundary. Star Sports, the official broadcaster in India, shared the clip on X (formerly known as Twitter).

KL Rahul Dismissed After Scoring 26 Runs in First Innings of Perth Test
Rahul looked to be in good touch with the bat before being dismissed off left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc’s bowling. He scored 26 runs off 74 balls, with the help of three fours. Australia took a review for a caught-behind appeal, and the third umpire overturned the decision without conclusive evidence.
Rahul has struggled to regain form in Test cricket. He scored just 4 and 10 for India A in the second unofficial Test against Australia A. Notably, he was dropped from the playing XI during the home Test series against New Zealand. In the first Test of that series, he had disappointing scores of 0 and 12 runs.

Rahul walked off the field, shaking his head and sharing his concerns with the on-field umpires. Former Australia cricketer Michael Hussey questioned the third umpire’s decision, adding that there was uncertainty. He said the spike could have come from the bat hitting the pad rather than the ball.
“That’s controversial – there was a spike on the Snicko, but was the spike coming from the ball hitting the bat, or was it the bat hitting his pad?” Hussey said.
“You can see the bat just clipping the pad, so you’ve just got to get the timing right … there’s got to be some doubt there in my mind,” he added.
“I don’t think you can be 100 percent sure that decision is correct. The disappointing thing is the technology’s there to make sure you get the correct,” he said.
