Ishan Kishan threatens Travis Head-Abhishek Sharma combo with blistering cameo in intra-squad match

Talented wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan made a case for himself with a brilliant cameo during the intra-squad match of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kishan’s knock has come just a few days before the beginning of the IPL 2025 season.

Ishan Kishan smashed a blistering half-century while opening the batting during the match. With this stupendous knock, he has presented the case for himself to open the batting which has created a dilemma for the team management.

SRH already has an established pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma which gave them a huge amount of success at the top last season. The pair is the frontrunner to retain their role this year as well but Kishan’s knock is a reminder that he is ready to take over in case anyone slips up.

Ishan Kishan threatens Travis Head-Abhishek Sharma combo

During the intra-squad match, Ishan Kishan smashed a fiery 64 off just 24 balls, according to a report in Hindustan Times. The wicketkeeper-batter was fearless during his knock and impressed the SRH management with his hitting ability.

Kishan opened the batting alongside Abhishek Sharma in this innings and both of them were aggressive from the first ball. Runs were scored from both ends as the bowlers found it tough to contain them.

Abhishek was dismissed for a quickfire 28 off just 8 balls but Kishan carried on his merry way. He made full use of powerplay restrictions and was brutal on the bowlers. He was finally caught off his own bowling by the all-rounder Kamindu Mendis.

At that time, Kishan’s team was 117-3 in 7.2 overs. In just 24 balls, Kishan reminded everyone of his ability. However, it remains to be seen how he gets a chance in the Playing XI with Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma already occupying their positions.

IPL 2025 signing price

Ishan Kishan played for Mumbai Indians for seven years before being signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 mega auction for a mammoth amount of INR 11 crore. Kishan is usually an opener but could bat in the middle order given that SRH already has an established opening pair at the top.

After a disappointing IPL 2024 season, the wicketkeeper-batter will be looking to redeem himself in the new IPL season with a new franchise. With SRH already having Heinrich Klaasen as the wicketkeeper, Kishan could play as a batter.

Ishan Kishan’s tough times

Ishan Kishan has been out of the national team’s reckoning for quite some time now. He was dropped from BCCI’s national central contracts last year after the BCCI found him guilty of prioritizing IPL over domestic cricket.

However, he has been taking part in domestic cricket regularly ever since then. The last time he was part of the Indian team was in 2023 during India’s tour of South Africa. Kishan mysteriously pulled out of the series citing a mental break.

Currently, he has fallen down in the pecking order but will see the upcoming season of IPL as a platform to make a comeback. He is a capable match-winner on his own day with his destructive ability to take the game to the opposition.
