IPL 2024: Kagiso Rabada leaves Punjab Kings to return to South Africa, here’s why | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has returned to his home country due to a soft tissue infection in his lower limb, according to a statement released by Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old fast bowler was representing Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he took 11 wickets in 11 matches. Punjab Kings have already been eliminated from the IPL play-offs race and will play their final league game on May 19.
Upon his arrival in South Africa, Rabada consulted a specialist and is currently under close monitoring by the CSA medical team. “The 28-year-old consulted a specialist on arrival in South Africa and is being closely monitored by the Cricket South Africa medical team,” said CSA in their statement.
Despite the injury, CSA has stated that Rabada’s preparation for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in West Indies and USA next month, is not expected to be affected. “His preparation for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA is not expected to be affected,” CSA added.
South Africa will begin their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka in New York on June 3.
