India are set to take on reigning champions England for the first warm-up match ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup. Both teams will look to test every possible combination before going into the showpiece event. The Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati will host the warm-up match between India and England on September 30. Before taking their flight to India, England featured in two back-to-back ODI series on home soil, taking on New Zealand and Ireland respectively. The English brigade showed their dominance over the Black Caps to win the four-match series 3-1. Two matches of the Ireland series were abandoned due to rain. But the hosts bagged the series by securing a win in the second ODI.
England will begin their title defence in the 2023 World Cup with the inaugural match against New Zealand on October 5 in Ahmedabad.
India will face England in the warm-up game on the back of a win over Australia in an ODI home series. The Men in Blue, under the captaincy of KL Rahul, notched up two consecutive victories to seal the deal. Regular captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli, who stayed sidelined in the first two games, featured in the third ODI, which Australia won by 66 runs.
