The previous biggest margin was yet another victory for India as they defeated Pakistan in Mirpur 2008, where the Blues managed to secure a victory by 140 runs.

After being asked to bat by Babar Azam, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill managed to push the gears as they showed positive intent against the lethal pace trio of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf.

The opening duo managed to get the score up to 121 in only 16 overs after Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Pakistan’s primary spinner, Shadab Khan. Shubman Gill followed not too long after as Shaheen Afridi picked up his first wicket of the game.

Many shared their concerns on whether KL Rahul would be able to replicate his best form. But everyone had to wait to know their answer as rain played spoilsport and stopped the day’s play. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had announced that the game could be postponed to the next day which has been officially declared as the reserve day for the marquee clash. This is something that is only applicable to this particular fixture and the finals of the Asia Cup.

Rains had interrupted play the next day but India was able to get a move on thanks to the sheer brilliance of both Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. The latter in particular looked like he was not even injured as he managed to bring out his best form against rivals Pakistan. Both Kohli and Rahul managed to bring up their respective centuries and managed to bat through the innings registering a mammoth total of 356 runs for Pakistan to chase.

Pakistan had their work cut out for them, but Jasprit Bumrah who bowled in his first ODI since his return from injury managed to get the breakthrough as he dismissed Imam-ul-Haq thanks to a catch by Gill at second slip.

The skipper, Babar Azam came into the field, but he struggled to get off the mark and was eventually dismissed by Hardik Pandya who managed to uproot his stumps thanks to a good-length delivery that cut back into the wickets.

Despite the rain interrupting the game yet again, Pakistan were not able to put in much resistance other than the 20-odd runs scored by Agha Salman and Ifthikar Ahmed. Despite the relatively wet conditions due to rain, it was the spinner, Kuldeep Yadav who managed to finish the game off quickly as he managed to pick up his first five-wicket haul against Pakistan to seal the victory.
