The names on the back of the English side’s World Cup kits, which were sent in afresh to India after initial printing errors in the jerseys the English used for the opening two games, were printed in random fonts and the size of them was also not similar.
Amid all the chaos over their upsetting loss to Afghanistan, questions have been raised over England’s kit that the players are sporting in this ODI World Cup. In their first two games of the tournament, English cricketers were spotted wearing jerseys which had the name of the team written in different fonts and in non-identical sizes on the front of the shirts. There was also a printing error with the name of the official sponsor, Cinch. It appeared on different sleeves for different players. The matter caught the attention of the England Cricket Board (ECB) and the kit supplier Castore.

Regarding the error, both parties have put the blame on a third-party printer, who was given the responsibility of designing the shirts, according to a report by the Telegraph. The issue was resolved soon and the English board sent a fresh set of World Cup jerseys to India. The new kits came with another issue. The name of the national team was fixed on every shirt. However, the previous error was noticed with the names of the players during the Afghanistan game. The names on the back were printed in random fonts and the size of them was also not similar.
Though the ECB has not yet made any official revelation regarding the latest blunder, for Castore, it was nothing short of a humiliation. The Manchester-based sportswear brand has been in the headlines for some time now due to complaints about their kits.
A few weeks ago, footballers of the Premier League club Aston Villa voiced their concerns about their new-season kits, which were also sponsored by Castore. Both men’s and women’s teams of the English outfit were irked with their wet-look jerseys, which were allegedly getting heavier after soaking in water. Another Premier League side, Newcastle United had recently terminated their contract with Castore due to an agreement-related issue.

As far as England’s performance in the ODI World Cup is concerned, the reigning champions have yet to find momentum in the tournament. They began their campaign with a humiliating loss to New Zealand. England, however, managed to bounce back In the subsequent fixture. The Jos Buttler-led side trounced Bangladesh for a 139-run win to secure their maiden victory.
England failed to continue the winning momentum against Afghanistan, who picked up their second win in World Cup history. The Afghan spinners, led by Rashid Khan, put up a dominant show in Delhi, with England falling 69 runs short of an achievable 285-run target.
