Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill‘s decision to exclude Washington Sundar from the playing XI raised eyebrows among cricket followers.
A cricket fan questioned this decision on social media platform X, writing: “How Sundar sneaks into the best 15 of India but doesn’t get a place in any IPL XI when 10 teams exist is a mystery.”

Google CEO Sundar Pichai responded to the fan’s post, stating: “I have been wondering this too.”
The fan then cheekily tried his luck by responding to Pichai: “Sir, give me a job in Google now that you have replied.”
Sundar has played only 60 matches in IPL, representing now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad and now Gujarat Titans.
Last year Sundar played only two matches for SRH, picking up a solitary wicket while going for 73 runs.
Yet, the spinner has played 149 T20s in his career, picking 113 wickets at an average of 28.43, economy of 6.98 and strike rate of 24.4.
While occupying the bench, Sundar witnessed his GT team suffer an 11-run defeat against Punjab Kings in their opening match of IPL 2025.
Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 97 off 42 balls and Shashank Singh’s quickfire 44 not out from 16 deliveries powered Punjab Kings to a massive total of 243-5.
Gujarat Titans’ chase saw Sai Sudarsan score 74 and Jos Buttler contribute 54, but their efforts weren’t enough as the team fell short by 11 runs.
