Giant Game Notches Frontrunning Victory in Cornhusker

It was a walk in the park for Giant Game  July 8 at Prairie Meadows when the 4-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway secured a gate-to-wire victory in the $300,000 Cornhusker Handicap (G3)—his first in graded company.

Off smoothly from the one hole under Martin Garcia, Giant Game cruised over to the rail and fired off and opening half-mile in :47.18 while Promise Keeper  and Fleetridge  tracked behind. At the stretch in 1:37.07, Skippylongstocking  and Ain’t Life Grand  surged forward with closing bids but had to settle for second and third respectively behind the speedy Giant Game who completed the 1 1/8 miles over a fast main track in a final time of 1:49.86.

Giant Game ($20) is conditioned by Dale Romans for West Point Thoroughbreds and Albaugh Family Stables. He was purchased by his owners for $500,000 at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearlings Showcase.

“I am so excited, I’ve never won this race and I couldn’t be happier,” said co-owner Dennis Albaugh.

The dark bay colt improved his record to 3-2-2 from 10 starts and increased his earnings to $530,500. He is out of the stakes-placed More Than Ready mare Game for More  who has five winners from seven foals to race including grade 2 winner Isotherm  , and grade 1-placed Gio Game . Her last reported foal is a 3-year-old son of Into Mischief  , Japanese stakes winner Great Sand Sea .
