With the $150,000 Noble Damsel field whittled down to Klaravich Stables’ Gerrymander and Sunset Louise for Vincent Stanzione, the one-mile off-the-turf test went off Oct. 8 at Belmont at the Big A to little fanfare, with the Gerrymander winning by a margin of 25 lengths.
Out of the gate, the Bruce Levine trainee got up by a few strides before Chad Brown’s pupil commanded the lead just before the quarter pole, which went in 22.59, followed by a half in 44.93, followed by 1:10.16, 1:22.93, and closing in 1:36.46 over the main track labeled fast.
The Into Mischief filly paid $2.60 for the win under jockey Jose Oritz.
“My horse was much the better than the other one,” Oritz said. “We both broke clean and stayed pretty much together the whole race until the three-eighths pole when my filly was much the best and drew away from the other one.”
