Gary Kirsten to join Pakistan team in Leeds ahead of first T20I against England | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Gary Kirsten, the recently appointed head coach for Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team, is set to join the national side in Leeds on May 19, marking the beginning of his two-year contract.
Currently, Kirsten is engaged with the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a mentor and batting coach for the Gujarat Titans. He will depart after their final league match on May 16.
Kirsten is scheduled to arrive three days prior to the commencement of the four-match T20I series against England at Headingley, which starts on May 22.
Following this series, Pakistan will participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, hosted by the United States and Caribbean. Their opening match will be against the host nation in Dallas on June 6.
Last month, the 56-year-old South African was officially appointed as the white-ball head coach, while Jason Gillespie was named the red-ball head coach.
Gillespie, an Australian, is expected to reach Pakistan in July to begin his tenure with the ICC World Test Championship matches against Bangladesh in August.
In addition to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and various bilateral white-ball series, Kirsten will also lead the team during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, and the ACC T20 Asia Cup 2025.
