Endlessly leads McCarthy 1-2 Finish in Del Mar Juvenile

The Del Mar meet wasn’t particularly kind to trainer Michael McCarthy early on.

But his fortunes changed and that 180-degree difference couldn’t have been captured any better than the $100,000 Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes (G3T) Sept. 10.

Endlessly , the Amerman Racing homebred, lurked near the back of the field for the first half mile only to draw even around the far turn and pull away for his second win in as many starts. He stopped the clock in 1:35.28 with a 2 1/4-length advantage.

“He’s continued to get better since his first start,” McCarthy said. “… He’s taken his lessons well.

“I was cautiously optimistic that he’d put in a big one today. It’s always nice when they do it in the fashion he did.”

Another McCarthy trainee, Lord Bullington finished second. Favored Boltage  was third.

WARMING UP

Through the first seven races on the card at Del Mar, the trainer found himself in the winner’s circle three times.

“It’s nice to finish off the meet the way we did; it didn’t start off very well,” he said. “I think we went 0-17 opening weekend. It’s not how you start, I guess it’s how you finish.”

DOWN ON THE FARM

Endlessly’s sire, Oscar Performance  , stands at Mill Ridge Farm in Lexington for $20,000.

Endlessly is out of the Langfuhr mare Dream Fuhrever and is one of her seven foals, five of which have started—two are winners. He has two full siblings including one born earlier this year.
