Deepak Chahar returns to the bowling nets; massive update arrives from the Chennai camp

Chennai Super Kings seamer Deepak Chahar has returned to the nets following an injury lay-off and he is expected to play a part in the game against RCB.

CSK will be taking on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in what is both of the team’s final league match of IPL 2024. This will be a reverse fixture between the two South-Indian franchises which last met during the season opener in Chennai. Deepak Chahar had played his part in the match, picking the wicket of Glenn Maxwell on a golden duck and conceding 37 runs.

When was Deepak Chahar injured in IPL 2024?

Deepak Chahar has always been an injury-prone bowler who has picked up several injuries in his cricketing career so far. He had arrived at IPL 2024 after an injury recovery itself but he had picked up something of a fresh blow just after playing 8 games for CSK. His absence had left a major void in the team and Chennai looked a bit out of place due to all the injury absentees.

On May 1st when the Super Kings welcome Punjab Kings in Chepauk for match number 49 of IPL 2024, Deepak Chahar could not even bowl an entire over. Chahar had somewhat of a niggle during that game in aggravated as soon as he got down to bowl in front of home fans in the 2nd innings.

Chennai had put 162 on the board, asking Sam Curran’s side to chase down 163 for the win. The target was relatively low and CSK needed its bowling department to fire at all cylinders. However, the hosts were handed a major blow in just the first over of the match when Deepak Chahar left the field in pain after bowling just 2 balls in which he had also conceded a four.

Following Deepak Chahar’s exit from the field, the Punjab Kings top-order settled in and left the crease after putting 113 on the board. Number 4 and 5 batters Shashank Singh and Sam Curran took Punjab over the victory line with their partnership and claimed a 7-wicket victory.

After the match, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming had said this about Chahar’s injury, “The travelogue is pretty busy. There’s a lot of ins and outs. So, Deepak Chahar doesn’t look good. The initial feeling wasn’t great. So, I’m hoping for a more positive report when the physio and the doctor have a look.”

Watch Deepak Chahar bowling at full intensity

During CSK’s preparation in Bengaluru, Deepak Chahar was seen bowling in full intensity and this indicates that the seamer is fit to play against RCB. Whether he will be directly integrated into the playing XI or not is something that remains to be seen but since he is fit, the Chennai management won’t shy away from including him in the starting eleven tomorrow.
