The $150,000 Caesars and The $150,000 Horseshoe Indianapolis, both black type events, have been rescheduled for Saturday, July 13 at Horseshoe Indianapolis. The races are Indiana’s two premier events over the turf course, attracting entrants annually from all over North America. First post for the evening event is 5 p.m.
“Unfortunately, we had to postpone Caesars Day in mid-May due to torrential weather, which included over four inches of rain the evening before and forced us to cancel our racing program,” said Eric Halstrom, Vice President, and General Manager of Racing. “But we did not want to completely bypass both The Caesars and The Horseshoe Indianapolis. Those races have become a staple on our schedule each season. It just took our racing office staff, led by Chris Polzin (director of racing), a little time to find the best fit among other turf events offered in the Midwest. We think we’ve found a great spot for both races Saturday, July 13.”
The Caesars runs at one mile over the turf for three-year-olds. The Horseshoe Indianapolis, its counterpart, offers the same distance for three-year-old fillies. The Caesars, which began during the inaugural season of racing in 2003, enters its 19th running while the Horseshoe Indianapolis, which began in 2009, will be held for the 16th year.
To complement the racing program, the Caesars Racing Legends contest will be held, sponsored by the Indiana Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA). The contest is free to play for both players on track and online and will offer total prize money of $2,500. The evening also includes Boots & Brews with mechanical bull rides and live entertainment, plus a night dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF) with the 10th annual World Jockey Challenge. A total of nine countries will vie for points for their native countries among all jockeys racing on the program. The winning country receives a trophy and bragging rights for the fun competition among the jockeys.
“This evening program just got a boost adding The Caesars and The Horseshoe Indianapolis handicaps on the card,” added Halstrom. “What was already an action packed event will offer some top turf racing featuring horses most Indiana racing fans don’t get to see on a regular basis. There will be all types of entertainment options for racing fans during the program.”

The Caesars and The Horseshoe Indianapolis is one of two evening racing programs provided during the 2024 racing season at Horseshoe Indianapolis with the first race going to post at 5 p.m.
The 22nd season of live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing extends through Thursday, Nov. 14. Racing is held Monday through Thursday at 2:10 p.m. All Quarter Horse dates are set for 10:45 a.m. Saturdays June 29, July 20, Aug. 10, Aug. 31, and Oct. 5.
