Boxing Nationals: Jaismine, Simranjit stay on course for finals

World Championships bronze medallist Simranjit Kaur and Commonwealth Games medallist Jaismine Lamboria continued their dominance in the ring with comprehensive victories to enter the semifinals of the 8th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship on Tuesday.

While the former earned a unanimous 5-0 win over Railways’ Prachi in the 65kg and will face the previous edition’s silver medallist Sonu, Olympian Jaismine got herself yet another victory that did not go the distance, with the referee stopping the contest in the second round against Tamil Nadu’s Hannah Joy.

This is Jaismine’s 3rd consecutive RSC win in the competition as she prepares to take on Punjab’s Vishakha Varitya.

However, 2022 Youth World champion Devika Ghorpade was upset by 2019 champion Kalaivani S of Tamil Nadu 5-0 in the 51kg, who set up a last-four clash on Wednesday against defending champion Anamika Hooda.

In the heavyweight division, two-time defending national champion Nupur (Railways) overpowered Tamil Nadu’s Jayasree S to advance, setting up a semifinal clash against Uttar Pradesh’s Ipsita Vikram, who breezed past Rajasthan’s Chandan Choudhary with a unanimous decision win.
