Aqueduct, Meadowlands Cancel Racing Due to Heavy Rain

Racing was canceled Sept. 29 at Aqueduct Racetrack and Meadowlands due to significant rainfall forecast to create hazardous weather in New York and New Jersey. Meadowlands also canceled racing Sept. 30.

With as much as five inches of rain expected, Ozone Park, N.Y., is under a flash flood warning and flood watch throughout the day on Friday. That led the New York Racing Association to cancel racing in the interest of the safety of all participants.

NYRA has not determined a new schedule for Friday’s featured Grade 3, $150,000 Noble Damsel Stakes (G3T) and $125,000 Ashley T. Cole Stakes.

Lighter rain is expected to linger into the morning hours on Saturday in New York, which could leave rain-soaked but drying-out conditions during the afternoon. One of four stakes at Aqueduct Saturday afternoon, the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (G1T) is scheduled for turf.

Meadowlands cited inclement weather for its cancelation, which followed a Sept. 23 cancelation due to heavy rain.
