Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T) runner Jayarebe suffered an apparent heart attack and died after finishing seventh in the 1 1/2-mile race Nov. 2 at Del Mar.
Breeders’ Cup expressed its condolences to the connections, which include owner Iraj Parvizi, trainer Brian Meehan, and jockey Sean Levey, who was not injured.
“During the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar, Jayarebe suffered what appears to have been a cardiac event on the gallop out,” Breeders’ Cup reported. “He was immediately attended to by a team of veterinary experts led by Dr. Brent Cassady, but unfortunately passed away.
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to Jayarebe’s connections and the many fans whose lives he touched.”
Jayarebe, a 3-year-old son of Zoffany , entered Saturday’s race off a narrow victory in the Prix Dollar (G2) Oct. 5 at Longchamp.
