The bay mare Amy C and rider Umberto Rispoli overcame a slow start and poured it on late in the five-furlong Daisycutter Handicap Friday at Del Mar as they came away a half-length winner in the $103,800 feature at the seaside oval.
Owned by the partnership of Madaket Stables, Michael Dubb and Bob La Penta and trained by Phil D’Amato, the British-bred daughter of Charming Thought captured her sixth victory in her 12th start, including a trio of tallies in stakes races. She picked up a winner’s share of $60,000 and boosted her career earnings to $332,385.
Finishing second was A Venneri Racing and Fanticola’s Tony Ann, who had a length and a quarter on Valley Farm Racing Stable’s Princess Adaleigh.
Amy C paid her backers in the shore crowd $9.80 for $2. It was rider Rispoli’s second triumph in a stakes at the session but his first in this particular race. Trainer D’Amato was also taking his second stakes score of the meet but it was his third tally in the Daisycutter.
Final time on the Jimmy Durante Turf Couse was :56.49.
