Aiden Markram takes blinder to dismiss Abhishek Sharma; Gerald Coetzee celebrates aggressively

The South Africa National Cricket Team captain, Aiden Markram, took a spectacular catch to dismiss the India National Cricket Team opening batsman, Abhishek Sharma, in the first T20I.

The first match of the four-match series between the Aiden Markram-led side and Suryakumar Yadav-led side is currently underway on Friday, November 8, at the Kingsmead in Durban.

Gerald Coetzee removes Abhishek Sharma early, thanks to Aiden Markram

Abhishek Sharma once again failed to score big for India in T20I cricket. The young batter had a great start to his international career but has seen a massive downfall since his ton against Zimbabwe.

Abhishek’s aggressive style of batting is doing no good to him as he has been mostly dismissed early on in the innings and has failed to provide India with a good start.

In the first T20I against South Africa, Abhishek Sharma was caught by Aiden Markram while trying to smash a boundary for 7.

On the first ball of the 4th over, the Proteas pacer Gerald Coetzee bowled a fullish ball just outside off-stump to Abhishek. The Indian batter tried to smash the ball for a boundary, and he spooned the ball up in the air.

Aiden Markram ran back from mid-off, kept his eyes on the ball, and grabbed a terrific catch to dismiss Abhishek. Gerald Coetzee was, as usual, very pumped up after picking up the wicket, and he celebrated extremely aggressively.

There has been some rain around this week and if there’s moisture we want to make use of it – Aiden Markram

Speaking ahead of the match at the toss, Aiden Markram said that they decided to bowl first because the surface looked a good one. He elaborated:

“We are going to bowl first. Looks a pretty good wicket. There has been some rain around this week and if there’s moisture we want to make use of it. Fantastic opportunity for guys to make their debuts at home and it is a great time for them to enjoy the game. We are quite a competitive team and the discussions have been how can we get positive results.”

The Proteas would be looking to defeat India in the match to take revenge for the loss in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 final. Notably, India beat South Africa in the thrilling T20 World Cup final earlier in the year.

India posted a good total of 176/7 on the board against South Africa and then the Proteas stumbled while chasing. Indian bowlers kept the South African top order from gathering momentum.

However, Heinrich Klaasen’s blistering fifty shifted the momentum towards South Africa. In the end, South Africa needed 30 off 30, but they couldn’t achieve the target and were restricted to 169/8.
