Zimbabwe home season schedule announced; South Africa, New Zealand to tour

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has announced an exciting home season schedule, with top teams South Africa and New Zealand set to tour for a multi-format series between June and August. This is a significant moment for Zimbabwean cricket, as the Proteas will play red-ball cricket in the country for the first time since 2014.

Zimbabwe will play two Test matches each against South Africa and New Zealand, along with a T20I tri-series featuring all three teams. The home season will begin with Zimbabwe taking on South Africa in the Test format. After the red-ball series, both teams will join New Zealand for the exciting T20I tri-series.

This Is the Biggest International Home Season – Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director

Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni called the schedule the biggest international home season in years and added that it provides an opportunity for players to compete against top teams like South Africa and New Zealand.

“This is the biggest international home season we have had in years, and it is an incredible opportunity for our players to test themselves against two of the world’s cricketing powerhouses,” he said.

“Hosting South Africa and New Zealand for both Test cricket and an exciting T20I tri-series is a fantastic development for the growth of the game in Zimbabwe.”

“We are looking forward to welcoming the teams and putting on a great spectacle for our passionate cricket fans.”

Zimbabwe to Kick Off Home Season with Test Series vs South Africa

Zimbabwe will take on South Africa in the first Test match in Bulawayo from June 28 to July 2, followed by the second Test from July 6 to July 10.

After the red-ball series, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and New Zealand will compete in a T20I tri-series as part of their preparations for the T20 World Cup next year. This will be Zimbabwe’s first T20I tri-series since 2018 when Pakistan and Australia toured.

The tri-series will commence on July 14, with each team playing each other twice. The top two sides will then battle it out in the final on July 26.

Following the T20I series, New Zealand will remain in Zimbabwe for a two-Test series against the hosts. Both matches will take place in Bulawayo from July 30 to August 11.
