Las Vegas, NV – Zia Park in New Mexico will be a busy place on Sunday, November 24 with three lucrative stakes races on the schedule. The biggest of the bunch is the Zia Park Oaks – a 1 1/16 mile test for three year old fillies who will be chasing the winner’s share of the $300,000 purse.
The Zia Park Oaks has attracted a field of nine females to go in race 10 on Zia Park’s Sunday card. Post time is 4:06 PM. Here is a brief glance into the past performances of all nine entries for this lucrative minor stakes race.
Unusual Way – Jeff Bonde trained filly had looked very good the last year but has stumbled in her last two starts. Last time out was a ninth in the minor Unzip Me Stakes at Santa Anita September 28 after a disappointing fifth as one of the favorites in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks in August. The good results include wins in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly Sprint Preview Stakes and the minor Campanile Stakes at Golden Gate June 1 and a very good second behind Wishing Gate in the Grade 2 San Clemente Handicap at Del Mar July 21. She had placed in eight straight races before her latest two outings and will be looking to get back to form this Sunday. Unusual Way is the 2-1 morning line favorite as she departs from post 3 Sunday.
Gold Medal Dancer – won her first two career starts for trainer Donnie Von Hemel and followed that with a distant ninth in her stakes debut – the Grade 3 Eight Belles Stakes at Churchill Downs May 3. She has been OK since – a second in her fourth career start – an Allowance Optional Claiming at Churchill Downs June 6, a fifth in the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks June 29, an Allowance score at Remington Park August 28 and an OK second last time out in the minor Remington Park Oaks September 29. Gold Medal Dancer has three wins and two seconds in seven career starts and is the morning line second choice at 3-1 odds.
Oscar Party – won the 2012 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies Turf and then raced to a fourteenth in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Fillies Turf and followed that with an Allowance score in May. She followed that with a respectable third in the Grade 3 Regret Stakes at Churchill Downs May 15 and a fifth in the minor Sandy Blue Handicap at Del Mar August 18. Last time out was a fifth in the Grade 3 Autumn Miss Stakes at Santa Anita October 26 after another quality result – a second in the Grade 2 Indiana Oaks October 5. Oscar Party has placed in two of her last four graded stakes races, has been in some big races in the past and is the 7-2 third choice for the Zia Park Oaks.
Sister Ginger – Steve Asmussen trained filly had a nice three race win streak in the spring/summer including the minor Indiana Grad Stakes July 20 but has stumbled a tad recently. Last time out was an OK third in the minor Remington Park Oaks after a distant seventh in the minor Riskaverse Stakes at Saratoga August 20. She has five wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 12 career starts and goes off at 9-2 odds Sunday.

I Am Miss Brown – Donnie Von Hemel trained filly has two wins and two seconds in her last four starts – the only poor outing coming in her only stakes action over that span – the minor Martha Washington Stakes at Oaklawn Park way back in February. Last time out was an Allowance score at Remington Park October 19 after a second in a similar race on that same track September 28. She has three wins and three seconds in 11 career starts and has looked good most recently. I Am Miss Brown is listed at 12-1 odds Sunday and leaves from the rail.
Midnight Flute – races in stakes company for the first time Sunday having recorded just one win, four seconds and a third place finish in 10 career starts. Last time out was a second in a Claiming at Churchill Downs October 30 after a fifth and another second respectively in two more Claiming races. She goes off at 12-1 odds in her step up in competition Sunday.
Key to My Warrior – finished a good second in May in the minor Budweiser Allowance Stakes at Sunray Park but has placed in just three of six starts since. Last time out was an Allowance score on this track October 19 after a pair of off-the-board finishes in Allowance Optional Claiming races also on this track. Key to My Warrior is 15-1 on the morning line and will line up in post 2.
Lady of Luck – has placed in four of her last five starts – a win and three seconds in Allowance races. Her one step up over that span resulted in a fifth in the minor Aspen Cup Stakes at Ruidoso Downs August 10. She is one of the longest shots in the field at 20-1 odds and will depart from post 7.
Comic Kitty – has 14 career starts with two wins, two seconds and two third place finishes. Last time out was an Allowance score after a pair of seconds in Allowance races – all results at Albuquerque. She has one stakes start under her belt – a seventh in the minor El Paso Times Stakes at Sunland Park in January. She is 20-1 on the morning line and leaves from the far outside post.
