WTA Mumbai Open: Teenager Maaya continues dream run, reaches second round

Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, 15, continued her dream run at the WTA 125 Mumbai Open on Tuesday as she progressed to the second round.

Playing the biggest tournament of her career, qualifier Maaya stunned World No. 225 Iryna Shymanovich of Belarus 6-4, 6-1 in the first round of the main draw at the Cricket Club of India.

Maaya, awarded a wildcard by the organisers, defeated World No. 265 Nicole Fossa Huergo of Italy 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 in the first round of qualifying. The girl from Coimbatore booked her spot in the main draw by taking down World No. 434 Jessica Failla of USA 7-6(9), 1-6, 6-4 in the final round.

Ankita Raina and Shrivalli Bhamidipaty also reached the second round.
