After strong runs in different races at the Kentucky Downs meet, Wolfie’s Dynaghost and Smokin’ T each will be seeking their first graded stakes score when they meet in the $200,000 Baltimore/Washington International Turf Cup Stakes (G3T) Sept. 16 at Pimlico Race Course.
Campaigned by Woodslane Farm, Wolfie’s Dynaghost captured this season’s Kentucky Cup Classic Stakes on the all-weather surface at Turfway Park and has twice placed in graded stakes. Typically on or near the lead early, the son of Ghostzapper enters off a narrow victory in an Aug. 31 allowance race at Kentucky Downs for trainer Jonathan Thomas.
In August, DATTT Stable’s Smokin’ T captured the restricted Lure Stakes at Saratoga Race Course and then followed Sept. 2 with a third-place finish in the Mint Millions Stakes (G3T) at Kentucky Downs. The 4-year-old War Front colt is trained by Racing Hall of Famer Shug McGaughey.
Not counting the two horses entered as “main track only,” the lone graded stakes winner among the seven expected runners for Saturday’s mile turf test is Cazadero , who won last year’s Nearctic Stakes (G2T) sprinting on the Woodbine turf and the 2020 Bashford Manor Stakes (G3) on the Churchill Downs dirt. The son of Street Sense will try two turns for the first time Saturday.
