Wimbledon 2023 Day 8 Live Updates: Djokovic eyeing last 8, Alcaraz, Rybakina face tough challenges; Bopanna in action

Wimbledon 2023 Live Updates, Day 8: Novak Djokovic was leading 17th seed Hubert Hurkacz by two sets – 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6) – on Centre Court when play was suspended on Sunday. The order of play dictates that the seven-time champion and the Pole will be back after women’s singles defending champion Elena Rybakina’s last 16 clash against Beatriz Haddad Maia on Centre Court. Djokovic’s Wimbledon winning streak is at 31 matches and counting and he’s 5-0 head-to-head against Hurkacz. Hurkacz hadn’t dropped a set in three wins before facing Djokovic. The 23-time Grand Slam champion is trying to tie Roger Federer’s record of eight men’s titles at Wimbledon. Meanwhile, No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, who says he wants to face Djokovic in the final, faces Matteo Berrettini for a spot in the quarterfinals later in the day on Centre Court. On the women’s side, apart from Rybakina’s match against 13th-seeded Haddad Maia, who is in the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time, two-time champion Petra Kvitova faces 2022 runner-up Ons Jabeur.
