Will Shreyas Iyer abscond from KKR’s opening match of IPL 2024? KKR captain officially comes out with a statement

Shreyas Iyer is eager to make a comeback for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team after missing the previous season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Shreyas Iyer expressed his excitement and is looking forward to engaging with the passionate cricket fans in Kolkata.

Shreyas Iyer encountered controversy after missing a Ranji match last month, leading to the forfeiture of his BCCI central contract alongside wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan. The right-handed batter’s last appearance was during the final of the recent Ranji Trophy.

In the final against Vidarbha, the 29-year-old batter played a remarkable knock of 95 in the second innings, setting the stage for Mumbai’s significant lead. His stellar performance contributed to Mumbai’s victory by 169 runs, securing their 42nd trophy victory.

Keen To Get Going With This Wonderful Team – Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer expressed excitement about returning to Kolkata despite concerns about his back injury. The middle-order batter emphasized his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success as a middle-order batter.

Thrilled to be back in the City of Joy with our passionate fans Keen to get going with this wonderful team,” Iyer posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Shreyas Iyer was sidelined from the IPL 2023 due to back issues, prompting Nitish Rana to serve as interim captain for the Knight Riders. During the last season, the Kolkata team finished seventh in the league stage with six wins and eight losses out of 14 games.

Kolkata Knight Riders To Kick Off Their IPL 2024 Campaign On March 23

The upcoming season of the prestigious tournament will commence on Friday, March 22, with a match between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

KKR will face SunRisers Hyderabad in their opening match at the Eden Gardens Stadium on Saturday, March 23. Following this, they are scheduled to encounter RCB in Bengaluru on March 29 and the Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam on April 3, as per the initial fixtures.

The two-time champions secured Australia’s leading pace bowler, Mitchell Starc, for a record-breaking price of Rs 24.75 crore, making him the IPL’s costliest player. Starc became only the second player to surpass the 20-crore mark, following compatriot Pat Cummins.

The Australian cricketer is returning to the IPL after an extended absence. Despite his anticipation to excel, Starc’s hefty price tag adds to the pressure for performance. The left-arm pacer is expected to lead the Knight Riders bowling attack in this year’s event.
