The 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises had different amount of funds remaining at the conclusion of the two-day auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The franchises created IPL squads of different sizes after the retention and auction processes, marking their final roster for the 2025 season.
In total Rs 639.15 crore was spent on 182 players at the IPL Auction to solidify the squads after retentions were confirmed on 1 November. Rishabh Pant (Rs 27 crore), Shreyas Iyer (Rs 26.75 crore) and Venkatesh Iyer (Rs 23.75 crore) became the three biggest signings, joining Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively.

Rishabh Pant becomes most expensive IPL player after he goes to LSG for Rs 27 crore at IPL auction

With the IPL Auction in the horizon, we assess how things stand. All of Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans and PBKS have the maximum allowed strength of 25 players. With 18 players minimum required, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals have the joint-smallest squads with 20 players each going into the IPL 2025.
The purse remaining, from the Rs 120 crore available to each team, also varies for all franchises. CSK and KKR have the joint lowest purse remaining of Rs 5 lakh each. At the other end, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have the most money still in their kitty with Rs 75 lakh.

IPL mega auction: Finally! R Ashwin returns to Chennai Super Kings

This money will come in handy if a team needs to make a replacement at a later stage. If a player gets injured before the season begins, a team can bring in one of the unsold players into their squad. There is a small caveat though: the replaced player cannot be more expensive than the injured player. So, Prithvi Shaw, who went unsold at a base price of Rs 75 lakh, can only come in if the injured player’s price was higher.
By virtue of this rule, the unsold players still have a chance of playing the IPL 2025 season. So all hope is not lost for the likes of Shaw, David Warner, Kane Williamson, Mayank Agarwal, Jonny Bairstow, Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav.
Purse remaining of all IPL teams:
CSK: Rs 5 lakh
DC: Rs 20 lakh
GT: Rs 15 lakh
KKR: Rs 5 lakh
LSG: Rs 10 lakh
MI: Rs 20 lakh
PBKS: Rs 35 lakh
RR: Rs 30 lakh
RCB: Rs 75 lakh
SRH: Rs 20 lakh
