Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) don’t even care for their captain Ajinkya Rahane when it comes to discipline and time management, and the viral clip was proof of that. Ahead of the IPL 2025 opener on March 22, Ajinkya Rahane turned heads for being late for practice.
The IPL 2025 season opener will be played between the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, March 22. This season, both KKR and RCB will have new captains.

Meanwhile, Bollywood superstar and Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan has sent a heartfelt message to the new captain ahead of their first match of the season against the RCB. KKR posted the video on Instagram and captioned it, “King Khan’s love for his Knights!”
Shah Rukh Khan said in the video, “Thank you, Ajinkya, for joining us and being a captain. God bless you, and I hope you will find a good home here and play well with all of us.”
On the other hand, rain might disrupt the much-awaited IPL 2025 opener in Kolkata, with an over 80% chance of showers on Saturday in the city. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an “orange alert,” warning of rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.
In the lead-up to the season opener, Kolkata has already seen intermittent showers. One of KKR’s practice matches had to be cut short after just one innings due to rain. Although there was light rain on Wednesday and Thursday, both teams managed to complete their training sessions.

Aakash Chopra questions KKR’s intent behind Ajinkya Rahane’s appointment as captain
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra made a blistering statement on Ajinkya Rahane’s appointment as the KKR captain after Shreyas Iyer decided to leave the franchise.
Chopra claimed that KKR didn’t originally plan to make Ajinkya Rahane their skipper given his price, which is the lowest among all captains this season. The Kolkata franchise picked the Mumbai star for INR 1.5 crore in the auction.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “We were seeing how expensive each captain was sold. No other captain was sold for single digits. They were mostly retained, and those who weren’t were sold very expensively.
However, he was bought for INR 1.50 crore in the end. It seemed like it was an afterthought to give the captaincy to Ajju.”
KKR will open their account in IPL 2025 with a high-voltage clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22.
