Wasim Akram hails MS Dhoni’s legacy as Indian legend
Reflecting on Dhoni’s legacy, Akram stressed that Dhoni’s influence extended far beyond his memorable 110-meter six that he smashed during CSK’s heartbreaking 27-run defeat against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the IPL 2024 clash.
He credited Dhoni for instilling a winning mindset in Indian cricket while hailing his calmness as a captain and his ability to finish matches under pressure. Akram also praised Dhoni’s role in nurturing young talent and maintaining consistency throughout his career.
The former Pakistani pacer acknowledged the significance of Dhoni’s 110-meter six against the RCB in Bengaluru and stressed that it was only a glimpse of the legendary wicketkeeper’s legacy. He marveled at Dhoni’s remarkable fitness at the age of 42 but stressed that his true legacy lies in his overall impact on Indian cricket.
He’ll be done after this IPL: Wasim Akram on MS Dhoni’s future
Wasim Akram was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda, “I have a gut feeling, he’ll be done after this. Players like him come in a lifetime, it all depends on him.” Speaking about his memorable six against RCB in Bengaluru, Akram noted: “His legacy is not just that [110m] six, it’s something else. He’s done a lot for Indian cricket. He brought the mindset.
As a captain, he brought calmness, played captaincy knocks, the way he became a finisher, the way he has groomed players, and showed consistency, so this will be his legacy. But, yes, for fans the last image will be that 110-metre six at his age, it’s incredible fitness. It will only be a glimpse of his legacy.”
Recently, Virat Kohli fuelled Dhoni’s retirement talks by stating: “Me and him playing again, maybe for the last time, you never know – that is a special thing.” However, there is still no confirmation or announcement from Dhoni or CSK over his IPL future, but the rumors are on the full song.
Speaking about the RCB vs CSK clash, Chennai needed 17 runs in the last over to secure an IPL 2024 playoff berth, and Dhoni started the final over with a bang by smoking a monstrous six off the RCB pacer Yash Dayan at the packed M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
But in the next ball, Dayal dismissed Dhoni, and CSK lost the virtual playoff qualifier by 27 runs against RCB. Dhoni was in great form this season, scoring 136 runs at a strike rate of 226.67 in 8 innings while batting at the lower end of the batting order for CSK.
