During the game between India vs Australia at the Oval in London, a certain section of the Indian supporters began to boo Smith who was fielding near the boundary ropes. Smith just made his return to the Australian side after serving a one-year suspension for his involvement in the scandal which tarnished his reputation as well.

Kohli was batting at the time and took notice of the crowd’s reaction and took the initiative to make an intervention. He indicated to the particular section of the crowds to not boo him and instead applaud Smith. Kohli shared that the gesture was instinctive and believed that it was unfair to target an individual personally for the mistakes they made in the past.

Smith was quoted by OneCricket where he spoke to Star Sports, Smith said it was a nice gesture from the Indian star and he appreciates it. He said,”It was a very nice moment from Kohli in the 2019 World Cup, the crowd was booing me and he told the crowd to just support him, What is wrong with him? That was great from Virat, really appreciate it.”

Smith also appreciated and praised his Indian counterpart and said that Kohli has always stepped up and delivered in the big games for the Indian side.

He said, “Virat Kohli is an incredible player. He always stepped up and delivered in big games. He has done it again and again for India in big games – there are not many bigger players than Kohli.”
