Shrivalli Bhamidipaty overcame Punnin Kovapitukted of Thailand 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the pre-quarterfinals of the W25 Solapur 10A ($25,000 ITF) women’s tennis tournament at the District Sports Complex on Thursday.
It was the third victory in eight meetings for Shrivalli over the 21-year-old Thai, who has been doing well in the tournaments in India.
The 23-year-old Shrivalli will play third seed Tiantsoa Rajaonah of France in the quarterfinals. The French was let off the hook by Akanksha NItture, who missed a match point in the third set tie-break, after having survived five match points on her serve in the tenth game.
Vaishnavi Adkar also played a good match against eighth seed Diana Marcinkevica of Latvia, but went down in a tough three setter when the latter served smart in the end to close out the match.

Second seed Sahaja Yamalapalli dropped one game to qualifier Laalitya Kalluri in setting up a quarterfinal against Ekaterina Yashina. Sahaja had blanked another qualifier Ishwari Matere in the first round.
Sahaja and Vaishnavi combined to oust the second seeds in the doubles quarterfinals, 11-9 in the super tie-break.
