Virat Kohli shatters records with INR 847 crore earnings

Team India’s batting superstar Virat Kohli has shattered yet another record, but this time off the field, as he became the highest-paid cricketer over the past 12 months. The Indian batting maestro is the only cricketer in the top 10 athletes with the highest earnings in the past year.

Indian cricket icon stands out as the sole cricketer on the highest-paid athletes list. Kohli earns substantial money from endorsements with major brands like Puma and Audi, along with his ventures into fitness and fashion through his Wrogn and One8 brands.

Virat Kohli becomes top-earning cricketer of the year

His significant financial achievement is also supported by his extensive social media influence, apart from getting a massive salary from the BCCI central contracts. Additionally, Kohli holds shares in several companies. According to a recent Fortune India report, Kohli pays INR 66 crore in taxes, the highest amount ever paid by any Indian sporting figure.

According to a Statista report, Kohli’s staggering earnings of INR 847 crore made him one of the top-earning athletes worldwide in the 12 months from September 1, 2023, to September 1, 2024.

The dashing right-handed batter’s remarkable financial growth propelled him to ninth place on the overall global list, featuring football players and basketball players across the world.

Cristiano Ronaldo tops highest-paid athletes list with INR 2081 crore

Meanwhile, the football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is leading the chart with INR 2081 crore. Ronaldo remained the top-earning athlete in the past 12 months, largely due to his recent transfer to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, which has dramatically increased his income.

Beyond his lucrative football contract, Ronaldo earns massive money from endorsements, partnerships, and his enormous social media following. Additionally, the legendary football’s CR7-branded merchandise and various off-field ventures contribute significantly to his leading position in the list of highest-paid athletes in the past year.

Well, Virat Kohli is currently on break, opting against playing in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 alongside Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah. Kohli was last seen in action in the three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka in July 2024.

The right-handed batter is expected to return to action in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The series is all set to begin on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, with the second and final Test scheduled in Lucknow from September 27.

You’ll need to upgrade yourself: Pragyan Ojha on Virat Kohli

Pragyan Ojha, the former Indian left-arm spinner, has advised Kohli to refine his batting strategy to effectively handle left-arm spin bowlers in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. Ojha pointed out that Kohli’s recent performances against left-arm spin have been less than stellar.

He emphasized that even seasoned players like Kohli, who have enjoyed a decade-long career, must continuously adapt to new challenges. Ojha believes that true legends evolve with the game, and he expects Kohli to make the necessary adjustments to overcome this particular hurdle.

Ojha stated, “There will be a time when there are different challenges, and you’ll need to upgrade yourself.”
