2016 Very One Stakes Race Preview
Dacita – Chilean champion, Chad Brown trained filly has 11 career starts at home with seven wins, a second and a third place finish and won three of her last four starts before shipping including three Group 1 races. She continued her impressive run in her North American debut with a win over the terrific Tepin in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa Stakes at Saratoga August 29 but stumbled to a ninth place finish as 5-1 second choice last time out in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf. Dacita will be looking to bounce back and to record her fifth win in her last seven starts overall. Javier Castellano gets the call from the rail.
Quiet Kitten – Marcus Vitali trained filly made her graded stakes debut January 9 and finished a disappointing eighth in the Grade 3 Marshua’s River Stakes at Gulfstream Park but followed that with an OK second last time out in a Starter Stakes on that track February 15. She posted a win by two lengths in a $125,000 Starter Stakes December 5 and also had a second in the minor Cellars Shiraz Stakes October 31 and two more wins – a Starter Optional Claiming in September and an Allowance at Monmouth Park in August. Quiet Kitten now has seven wins, two seconds and four third place finishes in 19 career starts and looks for her first stakes score. Nik Juarez has been tabbed to ride from gate 2.

Guapaza – Chad Brown trained Chilean bred mare makes her North American debut Saturday after six wins, five seconds and two third place finishes in 17 career starts at home. She enters on the heels of a three race win streak including a Group 2 stakes last May. Guapaza has been impressive indeed and hopes her success at home translates Saturday. John Velazquez will be in the saddle of the 119 pound highweight hoping to make it a reality from post 3.
Kitzys Rocket – Barclay Tagg trained filly has nine career starts with two wins, a second and two third place finishes. She makes her stakes debut Saturday off a fourth in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Gulfstream Park February 3, a third in a similar race on that track January 4, a fourth on this track in an Allowance Optional Claiming in November and an Allowance score at Saratoga in September. Kitys Rocket steps up in less-than-spectacular form and leaves from gate 4 with Edgar Prado in the saddle.
Olorda – German bred Chad Brown trained filly has eight career starts with two wins and two third place finishes. She was a Group 3 winner in France before shipping but has failed to place in three starts in North America. Last time out was an ugly twelfth in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Del Mar November 29 which followed an OK fourth in the Grade 1 QE II Challenge Cup October 10 and an eleventh in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational in July – her first start in North America. Olorda looks for a major breakthrough Saturday when she departs from gate 6 with Julien Leparoux aboard.
Al’s Gal – has 19 career starts for trainer Michael Maker with five wins, five seconds and three third place finishes. She will race in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday off an Allowance Optional Claiming score at Gulfstream Park February 3 and consecutive fourth place finishes in similar races. She did finish second in the minor Mrs. Penny Stakes at Parx in September but has been a tad inconsistent since. Luis Saez will be in the reins from gate 6 Saturday looking for Al’s Gal’s first stakes score and second consecutive victory overall.
