Pakistan leg-spinner Usama Mir was disappointed after being left out of the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Usama Mir directly reached out to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. However, Wahab Riaz reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with Usama messaging Mohsin Naqvi.
Usama Mir didn’t make it into the 15-member squad for the World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean Islands. The leg-spinner planned to play in the T20 Blast in England after the PCB agreed to grant him the NOC in an online meeting. However, Mir didn’t receive the NOC from the PCB, despite prior discussions.
Wahab Riaz Unhappy With Usama Mir
According to a report from local media, Usama Mir stated that he is the leading wicket-taker in the ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with Mohsin Naqvi. The spin bowler also engaged in discussions regarding his case and performance in an online meeting with Wahab Riaz and other selectors in Ireland.
The report highlighted that Usama Mir was initially granted an NOC to participate in England’s T20 Blast. However, the 28-year-old cricketer was subsequently denied. He signed a three-year central contract with the PCB, which allows him to join two franchise T20 leagues besides the PSL, as per the contract terms.
Usama Mir played five matches in the Big Bash League (BBL) season and represented Manchester Originals in ‘The Hundred’ tournament last August. The Pakistani cricketer was pulled out of the BBL midway through the season by the PCB due to a recall for the national side’s T20I series against New Zealand.
Usama could not participate in additional T20 leagues from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. The right-arm spinner planned to play for Worcestershire Rapids in the T20 Blast after being left out of the World Cup squad. Worcestershire Rapids canceled the agreement due to his denied NOC and signed Hayden Walsh.
